Step 1: Overview
The S50 allows you to configure several descriptive system parameters to
ease in the administration of internetworking equipment. The ability to
document and identify networking equipment will make it easier for network
administrators to manage and maintain their network. There are two ways
that system information can be viewed or used:
-
Via Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) using an SNMP management station.
-
Via the
command-line
interface
on the
S50.
The
information in
this document is
based on an S50 running SFTOS Version
2.2.1.
Step 2: Connect a Terminal to the Console Port.
Connect a terminal to the console ports of the switch. For details on how to do
this, see How Do I
Log In to the Console?
Step 3: Set the Prompt.
Use the hostname command to set the name of the switch.
(Force10)#hostname S50-1
(S50-1)#
Step 4: Set the Remaining System Parameters.
Use the snmp-server command to set the system contact,
system location and sysname. The
system location is a text string used to
identify the location of the switch. The text string may be up to 31
alpha-numeric characters.
(S50-1)#configure
(S50-1) (Config)#snmp-server
?
